The Knights’ girls basketball team won big, 62-30, in their final conference game of the season at Swanville last Monday night, but then played a sub-par brand of basketball in consecutive losses to Minnewaska Area, 64-44, and Underwood, 54-43, to wrap up the regular season.
The Knights finished their regular season with an overall mark of 15-8. They were 10-4 in Prairie Conference action where they finished in third place. Osakis (14-0, 22-2) finished as the Prairie Conference Champs followed by Browerville (10-3, 18-5), WCA, Upsala (9-5, 15-10), St. John’s Prep (4-9, 5-16), LP-GE (4-9, 4-18), Swanville (2-12, 3-21), and Royalton (1-12, 6-16)
The Knights still received the number one seed in Section 6A, however, and have a chance to steady the ship and make a big run in the playoffs. They will host the winner of Hancock (seeded seventh) and Underwood (seeded tenth) on Thursday at Barrett at 7:00 p.m.
“Our regular season is done and now we get a fresh start,” said coach Beth Hill. “Playoffs begin the start of a whole new season! What has happened this year (the great and the not so great) is irrelevant and the next team on our schedule is all we focus on. We are a strong team and I know we will make a strong run!”
“Now, moving forward, we need the help of WCA fans and our community,” said Hill. “For our playoff game on Thursday, the girls want a Silent Night. We are asking that fans dress crazily and make it exciting. The beginning of the game will be silent until our 10th point is scored. Then, we want lots of cheering from our fans. Please help spread the word and help make this a great atmosphere for our girls to succeed!”
