  Boys JV win 18 games
  by coach Nelson

The 2016-17 West Central Area boys JV basketball team finished a successful season with an 18-7 record last Friday night in Parkers Prairie. The goal of our JV isn’t to win every game, it is to create varsity players for future Knight teams. This year’s team did both, they won 18 games and developed many of the skills they will need to be on the varsity team in the future.

During the season, 22 different athletes in grades 9-12 contributed to game outcomes. With this many athletes participating, many different line-ups were used on the court. These young men did a great job of adapting to their roles and accepting different amounts of playing time. The team had nine different players lead them in scoring during the season. In 17 of their games, 9 or more players scored. This can be attributed to their unselfishness and their team approach to the game. They did an excellent job of understanding game situations, such as time and score. This propelled them to win most of the close games they played in. As a team, they averaged 44 points a game while only allowing 35. It’s hard work to play good defense, and the fact that they only gave up 35 points a game shows the dedication they have to the sport.

Boys on the JV in 2016-17 were: Senior – Gabe Reis.

Juniors – Logan Nadwick, Darrin Hokanson, Nathan Kaye, Dawson Staples, Colton Wutzke, and Malcolm Cabaniss.

Sophmores – Teigen Moritz, Isaiah Sykora, Benett Grove, Adam Oberg, Gavin Paulson, Tanner Bennett, and Ben Johnsrud.

Freshman – Jacob Bright.

West Central Area boys basketball has a bright future as these athletes move forward. These kids aren’t just good players, they are good people. Congratulations on a great season!
