West Central Area senior Annabelle Haarstad threw the discus 121 feet and one inch on her third throw to claim third place at the State High School Track and Field meet in St. Paul this past Friday and Saturday. The event was won by Jaimi Salone of Blake School who threw the weighted disc 155 feet and one inch, setting a new Class A record.
It was Haarstad’s second straight appearance at the big show.
Senior Chrisian Swenson and junior Ryley Nelson ran in the boys 3200 meter race and, like they have all season, the two ran neck and neck with Swenson crossing the finish line this time ahead at 9:53.91 for seventh place, and Nelson at 10:08.51 for tenth.
The race was won by Cole Oslin of Mora who finished in 9:40.73.
WCA senior Aaron Beyer finished in 17th place in the Long Jump, flying through the air for 17 feet and 11.75 inches. The boys long jump was won by Noah Carlson who jumped 23 feet and a quarter inch.
Ashby 10th grader Jacey Schlosser also participated in the state meet, qualifing in the girls shot put. At state she finished in 14th place with a throw of 35 feet and five and one quarter inch.
The girls shot put was also won by Jaimi Salone of Blake School, who threw 44 feet and six inches.
