Bredy named MVP at Hank Emmel Invitational

Dale Haberer clears 6’2” in Ortonville.

The Knights were again busy with Track and Field events last week. On Tuesday, April 29, they were at Minnewaska Area Schools for the annual track and field meet there and two days later, they competed at the Hank Emmel Invitational Track Meet at Pelican Rapids.

In last week’s edition, it was reported that the Knights’ track athletes performed very well at a meet in Ortonville, but results of that meet were not yet available. This week, those results are in and the Knights did, indeed, perform very well. The boys placed first with 190 team points and the girls placed fourth overall with 107 team points.

Coming up for the WCA Track and Field teams is the True Team competition on Tuesday, May 6 at Wadena. There are just two weeks before sub-sections begin on Thursday, May 22.

Minnewaska Meet
The Knight tracksters got a break in the weather last Tuesday for the Minnewaska Area Track Meet. Team scores were not made available to the coaches, but a number of the WCA individuals, both boys and girls, did very well at the meet.

“It was a good meet for us,” noted WCA Coach Luke Erickson. “The weather was pretty decent and we performed well.”

Starting with the boys, the Knights were again led by seniors Derek Bredy and Dale Haberer. Bredy won the 100 meter dash with an impressive time of 10.8 seconds. He also won the long jump with a distance of 21’3.5” and the triple jump with a distance of 42’9”. Haberer won the high jump event, clearing the bar at 6’2”. He also placed sixth in the long jump with a distance of 18’1.5”.

The boys 4x400 meter relay team of Ryan Sutton, Corey Froemming, Nick Gerving and Peter Hough placed fourth with a time of 3:59.94.

Mike Jones placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 109’5”.

Brandon Quick placed fifth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:53.

Ryan Sutton placed sixth in the 200 meter run with a time of 25.17 seconds.

The boys 4x200 meter relay team placed sixth with a time of 1:48.

The Lady Knights were led by senior Krystal Lacey. She placed first in the discus with a throw of 114’10”, third in the shot put with a heave of 28’10.5”, and fifth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 55.12 seconds.

Hillary Anderson had a strong showing in the 3200 meter run. She placed third with a time of 12:59. She also anchored the 4x800 meter relay team which placed fifth with a time of 11:29.19. Her running mates in that event were Lisa Meidl, Megan Anderson and Paige Anderson.

Jen Froemming placed fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.58.

The girls 4x200 meter relay team placed sixth with a time of 2:04.7 and the girls 4x400 meter relay placed sixth with a time of 4:41.

Hank Emmel Invitational
At the Hank Emmel Invitational Track Meet at Pelican Rapids last Thursday, May 1, the Knight boys placed fourth and the girls ninth in their 10-team meets. The boys finished with 77 team points and the girls finished with 36.

“It was a pretty good meet for us,” said coach Erickson. “We were missing some of our athletes, so that gave us an opportunity to try some new people in some events. The weather held out and it turned out to be a pretty nice night for track and field.”

Derek Bredy led the way for the boys as he placed first in four events and Hillary Anderson led the girls with a first place finish in the 800 meter run.

“Derek Bredy had a good night, winning all four of the events in which he competed. He was also named the most valuable male sprinter and the most valuable field athlete,” said Erickson. “With that said, we are really proud of all of our athletes. This season has been a real team effort so far and that has been great.”

Bredy won the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.94 seconds (a new meet record). He won the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.29 seconds, he won the long jump with a distance of 21’3” and the triple jump with a distance of 42’1.75”.

Also for the boys, Peter Hough placed second in the discus with a throw of 116’10”.

Kyle Toms placed second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:05.94.

Dale Haberer placed third in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5’8”.

The 4x800 meter relay team of Ryan Sutton, Colin Kjesbo, Neil Hyttsten and Corey Froemming placed third with a time of 9:40.24.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Ryan Sutton, Corey Froemming, Colin Kjesbo and Peter Hough placed fourth with a time of 3:56.74.

For the girls, Hillary Anderson won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:34.20.

Krystal Lacey placed second in the discus with a distance of 106’3”. She also placed sixth in the shotput with a throw of 29’2”.

Hollie Lien placed third in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:06.13.

The 4x800 meter relay team of Lisa Meidl, Megan Anderson, Amanda Werk and Hillary Anderson placed third with a time of 11:13.76.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Hollie Lien, Lisa Meidl, Megan Anderson and Tee Rudnitski placed fourth with a time of 4:46.76.

The 4x200 meter relay team of Tee Rudnitski, Megan Anderson, Hillary Anderson and Paige Anderson placed sixth with a time of 2:07.57.

Ortonville Meet
At the Ortonville meet, the Knights placed first overall with 190 points and the Lady Knights placed fourth overall with 107. There were many fine individual performances at the meet as well.

For the boys, Derek Bredy led the way with three first place finishes and a second. He won the 200 meter dash with a personal best time of 22.00 seconds. He also won the long jump with a distance of 20’2.25” and the triple jump with a distance of 43’9.75”. He placed second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.19 seconds.

Dale Haberer won the high jump as he cleared the bar at 6’2”, placed third in the long jump with a distance of 16’11”, and placed fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 35’7.75”.

Peter Hough won the 400 meter dash with a personal best time of 54.48 seconds. He also placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 109’3”.

Mike Jones won the discus with a throw of 116’4”, placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 16’2.5”, and placed sixth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5’2”.

Kyle Toms won the 1600 meter run with a personal best time of 4:59 and placed third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:25.

Ryan Sutton placed second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:23, second in the shotput with a throw of 35’9.5”, and fifth in the 200 meter run with a time of 26.32 seconds.

Marshall Strand placed second in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:31.

Donald Lacey placed fourth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 52.03 seconds, sixth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 21.07, and sixth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5’2”.

Travis Wiegand placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 35’11.75”, and sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.69 seconds.

Corey Froemming placed fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:28.

Brian Oachs placed fourth in the shotput with a distance of 35’0.5” and fifth in the discus with a distance of 99’7”.

John Olhoft placed fourth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:32.

Neil Hyttsten placed fifth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5.33.

Brandon Quick placed sixth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 13:46.

The 4x400 meter relay team placed first with a time of 3:52.06, the 4x200 meter relay team placed second with a time of 1:46.16, the 4x800 meter relay team placed second with a time of 10:28, and the 4x100 meter relay team placed third with a time of 55.96.

For the girls, Krystal Lacey placed first in the discus with a throw of 102’5”, second in the shotput with a throw of 31’1.5”, third in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 54:43, and fourth in the high jump with a height of 4’2”.

Hillary Anderson won the 3200 meter run with a time of 13:08.32.

Jodee Oelke placed second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 19.26 seconds.

Jen Froemming placed third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:05.18 and fourth in the long jump with a distance of 13’6”.

Tee Rudnitski placed fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 29.59 seconds.

Hollie Lien placed fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:07.34.

Amanda Werk placed fifth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:23.

Kendra Hildebrandt placed fifth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 21.3 seconds.

The 4x400 meter relay team placed first with a time of 4:29.54, the 4x800 meter relay team placed second with a time of 11:10.92, the 4x100 meter relay team placed third with a time of 1:04.64, and the 4x200 meter relay team placed fifth with a time of 2:13.38.
