A loud landing
A Grumman “Avenger” torpedo bomber from the WWII era, landed at the Elbow Lake airport during last Wednesday’s open house for the new multiple aircraft storage hangar. The 1,900 horsepower aircraft made quite an impression on people attending the event, especially when it folded its wings as it sat on the tarmac. The plane’s wings fold because it was designed for aircraft carriers where parking space is an issue. This is the same type of plane that George H.W. Bush was shot down in. It was restored by Gerry Beck of Wahpeton for Tri-State Aviation and currently owned and piloted by Mark Yaggie of Breckenridge.
